Britain's most famous admiral. He was the hero of the country's greatest naval victory, at the Battle of Trafalgar against the French in 1805. Tragically he was killed in the battle aboard his ship, the Victory. His distraught sailors, wanting to preserve his body for a state funeral at St Paul's in London, pickled his body in a barrel full of brandy for the voyage from Gibraltar. The news of his death was brought to London by HMS Pickle!
