In 1988, in the small Flemish village of Bovenmeer, only three children are born: Laurens, Pim and Eva. They become inseparable, and their friendship is the solace Eva seeks from her loveless family life.
But with adolescence comes a growing awareness of their burgeoning sexuality. In the summer before they begin high school, the three musketeers find their paths diverging. Driven by their newly found desires, the boys come up with a cruel game. Every day they ask a different local girl a riddle Eva invented; for each wrong guess, they extract a forfeit. In the hopes of befriending Elisa, a haughty girl from the city, Eva reveals the answer to the riddle, with unexpected and disastrous consequences.
Thirteen years after the summer Eva tries to forget, she is returning home. This time she's prepared: she's ready to settle the score...
